KUALA LUMPUR: An army pathologist was among seven men charged at the magistrate’s court here today over the abduction-cum-murder of deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Anthony Kevin Morais.

Colonel Dr R. Kunaseegaran was charged with abetting in the murder of 55-year old Kevin at an area between Jalan Dutamas Raja here and Jalan USJ 1/6D, Subang Jaya, Selangor, between 7am and 8pm on Sept 4.

The other six men, G. Gunasekaran, 47, R. Dinishwaran, 23, A. Thinesh Kumar, 22, M. Vishwanath, 25, S. Nimalan, 22, and S. Ravi Chandaran, 44, were charged with murdering the DPP at the same place, time and date.

All seven accused indicated they understood the charge read to them. No plea was recorded for the charge which carries the death penalty on conviction.

Magistrate Siti Radziah Kamarudin did not grant bail and fixed Nov 30 for mention. Among the DPP involved in prosecuting today’s case is Datuk Abdul Razak Musa.

Counsel Datuk S. Sivananthan acted for Dr Kunaseegaran while Datuk S. Sivananthan appeared for Dinishwaran. The others were unrepresented.

Counsel Americk Siddhu held watching brief for Datuk Richard Morais, a brother of the deceased.

It was reported that Kevin, who was previously seconded to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), was last seen leaving his Menara Duta apartment here for work in his Proton Perdana on Sept 4.

Based on closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) recordings in Jalan Dutamas, three or four men in a car rammed his vehicle.

When the DPP came out to inspect the damage, they grabbed him and pushed him into their vehicle. After nearly two weeks, his body was discovered in a concrete-filled oil drum in a partly-flooded ditch in USJ 1, Subang Jaya.
