Boy gets Malaysian citizenship, thanks to Wee

PETALING JAYA: A father’s wish came true when a Malaysian citizenship was approved for his son after seven years with the help of Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.

Born to a Malaysian father and a Vietnamese mother, Lim Zi Xiang, 10, was not acknowledged as a Malaysian citizen as the marriage documents of his parents were not recognised.

Lim Cheng Wah, who works in a plant nursery, claimed he was duped by a so-called agent who gave him fake Registration of Marriage papers.

Since 2008, Lim had desperately sought citizenship for his son.

He approached Ayer Hitam MP Dr Wee in 2013.

Dr Wee, who is a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, then sought the assistance of his Cabinet colleagues.

Last week, Lim obtained a letter from the National Registration Department recognising Zi Xiang as a Malaysian.

He rushed to a Mid-Autumn Festival event two nights ago in Yong Peng to thank Dr Wee.
