Modi to speak at public event on Nov 22

SHAH ALAM: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address a public reception in Selangor on Nov 22, according to Welcome Partners, the organiser of the event.

Welcome Partners chairman Tan Sri Kishu Tirathrai said Modi would speak at the ‘Malaysia Welcomes Modi’ event at the Malaysia International Exhibition and Convention Centre (MIECC) at the Mines Resort City in Seri Kembangan.

He said the reception was being held in conjunction with Modi’s visit to Kuala Lumpur to attend the 27th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits scheduled from Nov 18 to 22.

“This is the first visit of Mr Narendra Modi to Malaysia in his capacity as the Prime Minister of India to further strengthen the existing close ties between Malaysia and India.

“This public reception is held to mark this important visit of the leader of the world’s largest democracy, where his iconic leadership has made waves across the world,” Kishu told Bernama.

Kishu said the public lecture organised by about 90 cultural and community organisations in Malaysia including of expatriates, called Welcome Partners, will commence at 3 pm where the first segment showcasing the rich cultures of Malaysia and India would start about 4 pm.

Modi, he said, would deliver his speech at the end of the cultural performance and that more than 15,000 people had so far registered to attend the event.

“Modi’s public address is expected to outline a glimpse of India in years to come,” he added.

Members of the public interested to attend the free public reception are advised to come early in view of the tight security.
