Registration, Puspakom inspection for ‘lori hantu’?

PUTRAJAYA: The Road Transport Department (RTD) will carry out a study involving the possibility of mandatory inspection by Puspakom and registration for all ‘lori hantu’, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

He said the recent accidents have raised questions on the safety aspect of ‘lori hantu’ on the roads, and the ministry wants to reduce such incidents in the future.

“We are looking at the possibility of having the lori hantu or illegal lorries go through thorough inspection at Puspakom and registering them to track them.

“These procedures are available under the RTD, so we want them to follow it,” he said after opening the new RTD office in Galeria, Presint 4, today.

It was reported that RDT had been instructed to conduct a nationwide enforcement and monitoring of ‘lori hantu’.

This was done following a case involving a parked lorry that rolled downhill and rammed into 37 vehicles in front of SMK Bandar Damai Perdana in Kajang, Selangor on last week, killing two students.-NST
