Lawyer seeks apology from client, PI Bala’s widow

PUTRAJAYA: In a twist of events, the wife of late private investigator P. Balasubramaniam has been asked by her lawyer to issue a public apology and retract her media statement against him in relation to a conspiracy suit.

Americk Sidhu (pic) said he would discharge himself from representing A.Santamil Selvi if she failed to issue the apology and retraction with regards to the civil suit against the Prime Minister.

“She said I have instigated her to start the suit against the Prime Minister and others. I did not do it.

“She has to say that she is sorry and did not say it and retract it. Look at my position, how to appear in court for her. I am in a limbo,” Americk told reporters after the suit’s case management in the Federal Court.

Americk said he had sent a letter to Santamil last week and was willing to give her time to consider her next course of action.

“I have not receive any instructions from her. I do not want to jeopardise her case. It is up to her including if she wants to get a new lawyer,” he said.

At the outset of court proceedings yesterday, Americk told Federal Court judge Justice Azahar Mohamed that he had not receive instructions from his client and cannot make any applications for the case.

Santamil is seeking leave against the decision of the Court of Appeal on Oct 2 last year which set aside a consent order to remit the case to a High Court for trial.

Bala’s family – Santamil and their three children – Kishen, Menaga and Reeshi – had on April 24 last year failed to reinstate a conspiracy suit against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and six others.

Court of Appeal judge Justice Mohd Zawawi Salleh, who chaired a three-man panel, held that the notice of appeal filed by the family was defective.-thestar
