PUTRAJAYA: While PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli’s arrest will be explained by the Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi believes that the police acted within the law.

“Let the Speaker explain on this, but I am confident that the police’s actions were based on law. This is the very same law that the House and also the MPs had passed,” he said on Thursday.

Rafizi, who is Pandan MP, was arrested in front of Parliament’s gates on Tuesday under the Official Secrets Act?.

Certain people have since questioned the legality of Rafizi’s arrest.

?Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said has, however, insisted that the police did not break any laws.

The Minister in charge of parliamentary affairs said that although parliamentarians are immune from court proceedings for things said in the Dewan Rakyat, the immunity does not extend to criminal offences.-thestar
