Tun M’s actions could become a threat to the country: IGP

KANGAR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s actions could become a threat to the country, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

He was referring to statements purportedly made by Mahathir in his speeches, in which the former prime minister had allegedly suggested that there was no longer parliamentary democracy in the country.

Khalid said as a respected statesman, Mahathir should also have respected the federal constitution and stop making statements that could be interpreted as a threat to parliamentary democracy.

“Police have subsequently opened four investigation papers on Mahathir and we are discussing with the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further actions,” he said in a press conference at Mess Pegawai PDRM Perlis here today.

Earlier, he delivered keynote speech at a roundtable discussion and workshop on ‘Crimes and Border Issues’ which was officiated by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man.

Also present was Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) vice-chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.-nst
