Man accused of Valentine’s Day murder told to enter defence

GEORGE TOWN: The High Court today ordered a 33-year-old engineer charged with murdering his girlfriend on Valentine’s Day three years ago to enter his defence.

Judicial Commissioner Collin Lawrence Sequerah said the prosecution had established a prima facie case against Cheong Teik Keon.

Clad in bright, long sleeved shirt, Cheong appeared subdued in the dock when Colin made the short ruling at the end of the prosecution’s case.

Cheong was accused of committing the offence against Tan Ching Chin, 24, a clerk, at her home at No. 2703, Taman Hwa Seng, Jalan Rozhan, Alma, in Bukit Mertajam about 8.40am on Feb 14, 2013.

He was represented by Muhammad Arif Shaharuddin while deputy public prosecutor Lim Cheah Yit prosecuted. Trial has been fixed from May 23 to 25.-nst
