Wahid’s term ends June 4

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar’s tenure as a senator and a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department will end on June 4.

“It has been Wahid’s wish to only serve for one term when he accepted the appointment in 2013.

“I accept his wish to rejoin the corporate sector as agreed in 2013,” said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in a statement yesterday.

“However, Wahid will remain as a member of the Economic Council, which is chaired by the Prime Minister every week.

“I have notified this decision to the Cabinet yesterday and I thank him for his service and contribution.

“I believe and am confident that he will continue to contribute towards the development of the country,” he said.

Wahid in a statement expressed his appreciation towards the Prime Minister for giving him the opportunity to serve as a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.

“I believe I have given the best of my ability over the last three years,” he said.

Wahid reaffirmed his original decision to only serve for one term, which he had conveyed to the Prime Minister when he was appointed.

He said although he would no longer be a member of the Cabinet, he hopes to continue contributing to the Malaysian Government as a member of the Economic Council.

Wahid was appointed as a first term Senator on June 5, 2013 and was responsible for the Economic Planning Unit as a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.-thestar
