British Council says no record of Huckle working as teacher

PETALING JAYA: The British Council has no record of paedophile Richard Huckle engaged as a teacher in Malaysia after he completed the Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) in 2008.

A spokesman said Huckle completed the course which provides training to individuals to teach adult learners.

“Following the course, we have no records to indicate he was ever engaged as a teacher in Malaysia with us, either for adult students or children,” said the spokesman in a statement.

It was reported that Huckle took the teacher training course at the British Council’s offices in Kuala Lumpur. He also appeared in a promotional video.

Huckle, 30, has admitted to a series of paedophile offences against children in Malaysia.

He was arrested at London’s Gatwick Airport in December 2014 when he was going home from Malaysia for Christmas.

It was reported that Huckle faced a total of 91 charges including against 23 children in Kuala Lumpur, where he was working as an English teacher.

His victims were aged between six months and 12 years and the offences were committed between 2006 and 2014.

Huckle reportedly took pictures and video footage of himself abusing the children which he uploaded to the dark web.

A dark web is a hard to access part of the Internet often used for illegal activities.-Thestar
