Crowd gathers to pay final respects to late Syed Alman

KAJANG: The remains of Datuk Syed Alman Syed Alwi, son-in-law of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, arrived at the Surau An Nur, Country Heights in Kajang at 7am.

Around 500 people comprising family members and friends were seen at the surau here to pay their last respects to Syed Alman before the burial.

The remains will be brought to the Sungai Ramal Luar cemetery later. Syed Alman, 44, lost consciousness while undergoing surgery at a dental clinic at Bangsar, at 7pm yesterday.

He was rushed to the Universiti Malaysia medical centre but doctors had pronounced him dead. Syed Alman is married to Zahid’s eldest daughter, Datuk Nurul Hidayah.

Zahid had arrived at the surau about 7am with his wife Datin Seri Hamidah Khamis. Zahid had cancelled his five-day working visit to Japan upon learning of the tragedy.

It is learned that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will attend the funeral.

Also present here were Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan, Armed Forces chief general Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin, and Selangor police chief Datuk Abdul Samah Mat.-nst
