Cop fighting fit after losing 38kg

GEORGE TOWN: This time last year Penang policeman Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid weighed a hefty 135kg. But now his weight is 97kg – down by 38kg.

And it did not, of course, come by accident or through shortcuts. It was the result of careful diet, regular exercise and plenty of discipline and determination.

The George Town district police chief, who is 1.78m tall, vows to further slim down to below 90kg by year-end.

It all began early this year when the Royal Malaysia Police launched its Trim N Fit programme, a pilot project to combat obesity in the force.

ACP Mior Faridalathrash started to take mostly vegetables and fruits, and stopped over-indulging on food.

“It requires a lot of disciplined workouts and sacrifices from good food. I was a big eater. Nasi lemak used to be my favourite for breakfast.

“But I cut down a lot on oily and carbohydrate-rich food and sweet drinks,” he said.

Nowadays, the 54-year-old eats only rice during lunch and food that is high in protein, and vegetables and fruits at night.

“My diet has helped me to reduce weight greatly. I want to reach an ideal BMI (body mass index),” he said when met at the Penang Botanic Gardens recently.

The father-of-eight also pounds the treadmill regularly and cycles with his colleagues over the weekends, covering 30km each trip.

He takes part in the weekly senamrobik at the district headquarters in Patani Road too.

“About 150 policemen and officers will join me each time.

“We have our own instructor and the sessions are really enjoyable,” he beamed.
