Labuan police dispose of RM13,500 worth of alcoholic beverages

LABUAN: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has disposed of smuggled alcoholic beverages worth RM13,500 at a landfill in Bukit Kalam here yesterday.

The drinks of various brands were confiscated from a ferry intercepted in Brunei bay waters on Dec 17, 2013.

MMEA Labuan Enforcement chief captain Che Adnan Mohd Isa said the disposal was made after permission was granted from the Magistrate’s court on Aug 25.

The ferry is also in the process of being auctioned.

“During Ops Sejahtera, an MMEA patrol boat intercepted the ferry, with three Malaysian and one Indonesian crew members on board, headed from Brunei to Limbang, Sarawak.

“The MMEA hopes to receive cooperation from the public on reporting illegal activities on the sea to the authorities,” he said.

The four crew members were detained under section 135 (1) of the Customs Act 1967.
