More than 2,500 kilos of cooking oil seized from Perlis supermarket; hoarding suspected

KANGAR: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry seized 2,520kg of cooking oil worth RM33,000 from a supermarket in Seriab for flouting its storage limit. ?

State enforcement chief Jamal Nor Ahmad Harun said 1,020kg of the 1kg polybag and 1,500kg of the 5kg bottled cooking oil were found in a store behind the shop during the 7.10pm raid yesterday.

“Checks showed that the company is only licensed to store one tonne of cooking oil at a time.

“According to the manager, the stocks were delivered by their suppliers at the same time two days ago, resulting in the excess supply.

“We are investigating the possibility of the cooking oil being hoarded, including the subsidised ones, at the supermarket,” he told a press conference here today.

The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974 which carries a maximum RM1 million fine or two years’ imprisonment or both for the first offence.-nst
