Hamzah livid over rumour-mongering on price hikes, pledges action

KUALA LUMPUR: Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin will not hesitate to lodge police reports on those who create rumours on price hikes.

“We will work together with the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to track down those who generate these posts on social media and take action against them,” he said.

Hamzah, who did not mince words at the sidelines of Dewan Negara here today, said he was particularly ticked off by recent viral posts on the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas.

“I was so upset that I directed my officer to make a police report.

But after the report, the circulation of the viral post stopped,” he said, attributing panic-buying and shortages of essential goods such as cooking oil to such rumours.-nst
