JOHOR BARU: The 11-year-old boy who has been missing since Nov 23, is believed to have run away from home as he has done it before.
His mother Julia Isnin, 40, however, said she had always been able to find her son Mohd Azhari Mohd Saari and bring him home.
She said her son had done the disappearing act on several occasions when he did not return home after going out to play.
“I never hit him for doing that but chose to advise him to return home after he was done playing,” said the mother of four, adding that she usually finds her son at a cyber cafe near their house with his friends.
She did not expect Mohd Azhari, who has a twin, to stay away for more than five days.
“I left the house at about 6.30am last Wednesday to do some grocery shopping, leaving Mohd Azhari with his 17-year-old sister at home.
“When I returned at about 10am, he had already left the house,” she said.
She added that the family searched many places, including his friends’ houses and the cyber cafe where he patronised but to no avail.
Julia said that her friends alerted her on Thursday that Mohd Azhari was seen loitering at a hypermarket in Taman Suria and also saw him riding a taxi towards Kampung Melayu with a friend.
“I just want my son to return home as I am worried about his safety especially because he only has RM40 with him on the day he went missing,” said Julia in between sobs.
It was reported that Mohd Azhari was last seen wearing a red T-shirt and black pants on the day he went missing.
His disappearance also went viral on social media with the post receiving more than 600 likes and 500 shares with netizens expressing their worry about the boy’s safety.
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Sulaiman Salleh said the police were still searching for the boy and the case was being investigated under missing persons report.
