KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister and party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will open the 2016 Umno general assembly, which begins Thursday at Dewan Merdeka, Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), here.

According to tradition, the assembly starts with a parade and the hoisting of the Jalur Gemilang and the Umno flag, Sang Saka Bangsa.

This will be followed by the singing of Negaraku, party song Bersatu, Bersedia, Berkhidmat and the three songs of the Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings at Plaza Merdeka, before the event moves to Dewan Merdeka.

Najib will then deliver his presidential policy speech before 2,762 delegates.

Before the policy speech, a financial and membership report will be tabled by treasurer Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak and party secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
