KUALA LUMPUR: Pas has predicted that the next General Election will be held as early as May next year.

Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad said there are many indications that it will be held during that month.

The conclusion was based on the implementation of projects by the Federal Government.

“The new projects will be launched during the election campaign period.

“At the same time, the Election Commission (EC) has also issued a briefing schedule for the election officers,” he said in a statement today.

In addition, the Chinese will celebrate the Chinese New Year in late January and the festive mood will continue in February.

Political activities often slow down during the festive season with the exception of hosting open houses, he noted.

He also speculated that Parliament will be dissolved at the end of March or early April, after which a general election will be held within 60 days.

Iskandar said the timing of the poll is also in view of Pas’ muktamar (general assembly) next year, which will be held in late April and early May.

“Do not be surprised if the Parliament will be dissolved around that time in order to disrupt Pas’ preparations for the elections,” he said.
