Police say ‘no’ to discount touts, tell public to pay summonses at the counter

KUALA LUMPUR: Police will take immediate action against “discount touts” who claim they can help traffic offenders reduce their compounds.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the touts, who wait outside traffic police stations and the Road Transport Department to offer the service, could be charged with public disturbance.

“Police do not accept middleman services for payment of summonses. Do not believe in them.

“We urge the people to pay directly at the counter,” he said after presenting an appreciation award to Team F, an elite team which had defeated Malayan Communist Party.

On Tuesday, a Malay daily reported that “discount touts” claimed that they could help settle RM3,000 summonses by only paying RM500.

They claimed that they have “friends” who worked at the counter who can help.
