Sarawakian leaders send messages of unity and togetherness ahead of the New Year

KUCHING: The Christmas’ wishes from many Sarawakian leaders in conjunction with the holiday season were laden with calls for stronger unity and togetherness among the multi-racial society in the state.

Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem noted that greater cooperation among the people warrants a better future and a more prosperous Sarawak.

“The year 2016 is coming to an end. In retrospect, the year has brought us some pivotal changes to shape a better Sarawak for the people, especially the future generations.

“Our journey together shall definitely continue next year, with stronger grit, determination and a harmonious spirit that is unique to us here in Sarawak.

“During this season of celebrations, do take some time to slow down and enjoy the simpler things in life. Seize the opportunity to connect with others in a special way and draw strengths from our differences,” said Adenan in his Christmas’ message posted on his Facebook account yesterday.

Echoing the same sentiment was Santubong MP, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who is also the Natural Resources and Environment Minister.

Wan Junaidi said Sarawakians must continue to celebrate their diversity during all festive occasions including Christmas celebration.

“For many years, we have maintained strong ties among our multi-racial and multi-religion society, which should continue to be nurtured.

“Let us be an example of a united society for the rest of the country and even the world to emulate.

“Let us continue to show others that people in Sarawak are free to preach and practise the call of their religion without affecting devotees of other religion,” he told reporters during a briefing on the progress of small-scale projects being implemented in his parliamentary constituency.

Batang Sadong MP, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, urged all Sarawakians to come together and pool their resources in the forms of ideas for the state and the nation.

“Let’s come with fresher and greater minds, new ideas and a better us in the year ahead. Let 2017 be a year of love for the nation.

“What’s important in life is to keep our strengths together and show our best to the next generation,” said Nancy, who is also the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.

Meanwhile, State Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, in a 60-second-long video upload on his Facebook, said Christmas should be celebrated with lots of love and happiness.

“Together we light up the community with peace and unity.”-nst
