SHAH ALAM: PKR has no problem if DAP really wants the deputy prime minister’s post as mentioned by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, its Women’s chief Zuraida Kamaruddin was quoted as saying yesterday.

In the Antarapos report, she said this was because Pakatan Harapan practices openness and celebrates racial diversity.

“Yes (no problem), on the basis that we celebrate our racial diversity,” she was quoted as saying. However, the Ampang MP said she had never heard of such request being made by DAP, the party that was once dubbed as racist by Dr Mahathir.

“In principle, I did not see that there is such a request from DAP which is often referred as a Chinese-based party although it is actually a multi-racial party.

“I’ve never heard of them (party leaders) making such request. “However, as a multi-racial opposition pact, we welcome the combination of various races (in a leadership line-up).” she said in the report.

Earlier this week, Dr Mahathir, who is also chairman of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), had said that DAP had sought the post of Deputy Prime Minister should the Opposition win in the 14th General Election.

On Friday night, the former prime minister corrected his earlier statement to say that it was MCA which had asked for the position, and not DAP.
