Jong-nam killing: Mini mayhem at Bukit Aman as newsmen vie for slots for police press conference

KUALA LUMPUR: A chaotic situation broke at Bukit Aman today as scores of pressmen tried to enter the federal police headquarters to cover a press conference by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim.

Noor Rashid is expected to announce the latest findings into the police’s investigation into the assassination of Kim Jong-nam, the estranged half brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, at klia2 on the morning of Feb 13.

Local pressmen were complaining to the police officers manning the entrance that foreign press were given preference over the local news media.

The situation was compounded by the fact that each media organisation was restricted to three persons for the press conference, a requirement which was not told to them earlier on.

This created a dilemma and sparked debates among the pressmen as many news organisations had sent teams comprising between five and seven people, especially the local ones.

The press conference was scheduled to start at 1.30pm. As of press time, newsmen are still scrambling to get in while some are lined up in front of the press conference hall inside Bukit Aman.-nst
