Gang 24 case involving ‘Datuk Seri’ to be heard in KL High Court

GEORGE TOWN: The trial involving 22 alleged members of the notorious Gang 24 in Penang, one of them a businessman with “Datuk Seri” title, has been transferred to the Kuala Lumpur High Court from a Sessions Court here.

Sessions judge Roslan Hamid said the case was to be heard in Kuala Lumpur as it fell under the jurisdiction of the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).

Roslan said the Kuala Lumpur High Court would inform the lawyers representing the accused of the case mention date.

“Any objections and bail are to be raised later in the Kuala Lumpur High court,” he said on Monday.

Datuk Seri Ng Chian Sia, 55, believed to be the gang’s top boss, and 21 other men were arrested during an operation codenamed Ops Cantas Mutiara launched on Jan 28 by the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigations Department and Penang Criminal Investigations Department.

The offence under Section 130V (1) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of at least five years and not more than 20 years, upon conviction.-thestar
