IGP: Disclosure of arrest won’t jeopardise Pastor Koh’s life

PETALING JAYA: The announcement of the arrest of a suspect in Pastor Raymond Koh’s abduction will not put his life in jeopardy, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar (pic).

“Yes, usually we do not say anything in such cases, but this arrest was done with the family’s help so we think that it is okay to divulge,” he said during the closing ceremony of the modern policing initiative pilot programme here yesterday.

On Thursday, a 32-year-old man was arrested in Ampang, almost a month after Koh was abducted.

The man contacted Koh’s family a day before his arrest and asked for money to help secure his release.

In an open letter, the World Council of Churches (WCC) had appealed to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to intensify investigations into the abduction.

“I respectfully ask you to order an intensification of the investigation into the abduction of Pastor Koh to ascertain his whereabouts and ensure his immediate release and return to his family,” said its general-secretary Rev Dr Olav Fykse Tveit.

The WCC is a fellowship of over 348 churches in more than 110 countries and territories, and represents over 560 million Christians.-thestar
