MCA confident of BN consensus on Hadi’s bill

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA is confident that the 13 Barisan Nasional component parties will reach a consensus on the proposed amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act or RUU355.

MCA secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan (pix) said the coalition has worked together for the past few decades because all component parties shared the same values and consensus.

“We meet to find solutions, not to fight against each other,” he told reporters on Wednesday when asked if RUU355 would be discussed at the Barisan supreme council meeting to be held on Wednesday night.

Ong said issues that would cause panic among the people should not be raised in the first place.

“It is regrettable that this issue has been turned into a sensitive political topic,” he added.

Earlier, Ong, who is International Trade and Industry Minister II, met with Shaanxi Province governor Hu Heping to discuss potential trade opportunities between Malaysia and the Chinese province which is located in the interior.

Ong said Malaysia’s trade volume with Shaaxi stood at US$257mil (RM1.14bil) last year.

Most of the exported products were electronic components, he revealed.

“We are targeting to double the volume in the future,” he added.-thestar
