Bukit Aman Awaiting Thai Police Response On Peter Chong’s Abduction Claims

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is still waiting for a response from Thai authorities over Peter Chong’s claims that he was abducted, says Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

“We are working with our Thai counterpart to get to the bottom of the matter. It is still premature to conclude anything,” said the Inspector-General of Police at a press conference in Bukit Aman here on Tuesday.

He added that the Pattaya police have yet to give the results of their checks on Chong’s claims.

Khalid also said that Chong’s actions in going to Pattaya to supposedly meet a source have caused distress to society.

“We want to know the real reason behind his abrupt action. He has wasted a lot of our man-hours investigating his mysterious disappearance,” he said.

Khalid also did not comment when asked if there were any new leads in the ongoing investigation into Pastor Raymond Koh’s abduction.

He said that as opposed to the other three people reported missing, only Koh’s case showed evidence of an abduction.

The other three are Pastor Joshua Hilmy and his wife Ruth, as well as social activist Amri Che Mat, who went missing last year.

“For the other three, there is no evidence that they were kidnapped or abducted. So they remain as missing persons,” said Khalid, adding that police continually check on the 5,100 missing person cases nationwide.-thestar
