Datuk Seri and son brought to court for remand over alleged land scandal

GEORGE TOWN: A 74-year-old Datuk Seri and his 47-year-old Datuk son were brought to court here at 10.50am Wednesday for a remand application.

The duo, who run a property development company, were allegedly involved in the sale of land without going through the correct procedure causing heavy losses to a local foundation’s subsidiary.

The father and son were arrested at the offices of the Penang MACC and Putrajaya MACC respectively at 7pm Tuesday.

According to MACC, their arrest was linked to the March 29 arrest of a 70-year-old Datuk was remanded pending investigation into alleged abuse of power while he was the head of a foundation here.

The investigation of all those involved are being conducted under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.

They face a jail term of not more than 20 years and a fine of five times the value of gratification or RM10,000, whichever is higher.-thestar
