BANGKOK: A four-year-old girl was killed when she fell into a sewerage manhole at a government housing project for the poor in Samut Sakhon on Wednesday night, police said.

Pol Lt-Colonel Thaweesak Lekkla, an inspector at Krathumban Police Station, said the girl fell into an open manhole of the Wat Ngon Kai Ua-athorn housing project in Tambon Klong Madua, Krathumban district, at 8pm.

The manhole cover had eroded and was yet to be replaced.

The girl’s father, Ratchanon Boonngam, 42, said the girl had gone with her brother to buy treats from a grocery store. The brother came out of the shop and found his sister missing so he rushed home to inform his parents.

The parents went to the shop and checked a CCTV outside the shop and found the girl, Yosita, had fallen into the manhole.

Rescuers drained water from the sewerage pipe and recovered her body. – The Nation/Asia News Network
