INCLUDING THREE TEENAGE GIRLS

BUKIT GAMBIR, Oct 30 (Bernama) — Three teenage girls were among 112 ”Mat Rempit” (illegal motorcycle racers) detained by Penang police during a special operation early this morning. Penang Public Order and Traffic chief Supt. Wan Aziz Wan Husin said the operation which started at 2am in Bukit Gambir, managed to detain the ”Mat rempit” and prevent illegal races.

“Many had tried to avoid the police dragnet by driving against traffic but police managed to detain them. Most of them did not have driving licence or road tax,” he told reporters here today.

He added that police had also issued 74 traffic summonses for various offences while 73 motorcycles were seized for various offences.

Wan Aziz said a 16-year-old teenage girl who had a previous record for drugs, was also among those detained.
