PAS NEEDS TO REVIEW ITS POSITION IN OPPOSTION PACT – ANALYST

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 (Bernama) — PAS is advised to review its position in the opposition pact if the allegation made by a member of parliament (MP) at a Dewan Rakyat sitting recently, that there was a secret agreement between DAP and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), is true.

Political analyst Dr Sivamurugan Pandian said there was a possibility of truth of what was disclosed by the Independent MP for Kulim Bandar Baru, Zulkifli Nordin, who is also a former PKR member, last Thursday.

He said Zulkifli”s allegation should be viewed seriously by all parties in the opposition pact.

“The allegation should be investigated by PKR, DAP and PAS to find out the truth and to prove that Zulkifi was not merely looking for popularity.

“PAS should also review its agreement with them as it is feared that it will affect the party in the next general election,” he told Bernama here today.

The Universiti Sains Malaysia political science lecturer said PAS should also realise that by now, the party could stand on its own without having to form a pact with PKR and DAP, as it had far more members than the other two partners.

Sivamurugan also opined that if the allegation was accurate and true, then, the chances were, the opposition pact would not make it in the 13th general election.

“The people will see that the opposition pact is actually a fake, and that the parties got together only for power, without any common objective,” he said.

On the secret agreement to give DAP autonomy in Penang, Sivamurugan said if it was true, it would be seen as challenging the existing provisions in the Federal Constitution, and “will affect racial unity if the autonomy is given”.

Last Thursday, Zulkifli claimed that DAP and PKR had made a secret agreement, without the knowledge of PAS, to give DAP control over three states if the opposition pact manages to take over Putrajaya in the next general election.

He said the close ties between DAP and PKR was driven by the power-sharing agreement which included giving DAP autonomy over Penang.

However, DAP deputy chairman Dr Tan Seng Giaw, was today reported to have refuted the allegation, saying that it was baseless.
