KUANTAN: Some 400 people from 113 families were evacuated when floods hit Kuantan and Pekan districts again early Friday.

A police spokesman said 246 victims from 65 families were evacuated in Pekan.

“Kampung Cenderawasih and Sungai Miang were affected by the floods. All the victims were housed at Pekan’s Sekolah Sinar Mutiara.”

In Kuantan district, police said, the five affected areas were Batu 6 Jalan Gambang, Kampung Cendering, Kampung Seri Damai, Kampung Jaya Gading and Kampung Paya Pancing.

“The 163 victims from 48 families were placed at the Panching community hall (eight victims), Seri Damai community hall (83) and Sekolah Menengah Pandan (72).”

The spokesman said two main roads at Km30, Km36 and the Kampung Sungai Kolek bridge, Sungai Lembing, were closed to all vehicles after the flood waters rose to one metre.
