GEORGE TOWN: An armed duo made away with RM500,000 from a cash transport vehicle outside a bank in Bayan Baru here today.

In the 11.15am incident, two men on a motorcycle had intercepted security officers who were about to transfer cash into an armoured van parked outside the Ambank Bayan Baru along Lintang Mayang Pasir 1.

The guards were caught unawares when the pillion rider of the bike kicked one of the security guards escorting the cash, causing him to fall.

The robber then ran away with two bags of cash but had to make do with one after the guards shot his leg.

His accomplice on the bike sped off, while the injured robber ran across the street.

The guards then chased the robbers but failed.
