Muhyiddin – Will he or will he not

PETALING JAYA: All eyes will be on Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who is expected to reveal his future after being unceremoniously dumped as Umno’s No 2 man.

Muhyiddin, who was sacked as deputy prime minister last year, is holding a highly-anticipated press conference at his office in Bukit Damansara at 11am today.

The press conference relates to his suspension from his Umno’s deputy president’s post and other issues which require clarification.

Uppermost on everyone’s mind is whether Muhyiddin will follow Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who quit Umno last Monday citing loss of confidence in the top leadership.

Although Muhyiddin’s moves have been shrouded in mystery, speculation has been rife that he may also quit the party.

Muhyiddin was abroad on Feb 26 when the Umno supreme council made the decision to suspend him as deputy president for failing to support party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Muhyiddin remained as Pagoh Umno chief.

The suspension, effective until the next Umno elections, came after Muhyiddin’s continued attacks on Najib’s handling of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and RM2.6bil political donation issues.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, also deputy prime minister, has assumed the duties of deputy president.

On July 28, 2015, Muhyiddin was sacked from the Cabinet along with Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.-thestar
