Abu Zahar: Senators should respect sanctity of Parliament

KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Negara will not tolerate any unruly behaviour in Parliament, where those who disobey will be booted from the august house.

Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang said senators should respect house rules, proceedings and sanctity of Parliament.

“We are not against people debating in the house. We welcome fruitful debates. But it should not be done in an unruly manner.

“Those who fail to adhere to this will be kicked out of the house, regardless of being government or opposition members.

“To me, the most important thing is the rule of law. Laws must be respected and adhered to under all circumstances.

“Laws are made by member of Parliaments. And as parliamentarians we must respect and obey the law. No one is above the law.”

Abu Zahar said this today after receiving a courtesy call from Kuwait Ambassador to Malaysia, Saad Abdullah Al Asousi at Parliament, here.

Dewan Negara will sit from April 18 till May 4, for 11 days.-nst
