Five policemen nabbed in connection with corruption

KUALA LUMPUR: Five policemen were detained by a team of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at Ayer Itam police station early this morning.

The policemen were arrested at 3.30am following a tip-off from a member of the public that accused them of being involved in corruption.

All of them were at the police station’s Crime Prevention Branch room during the arrest.

Penang MACC director Datuk M. Samarajoo said the policemen were detained for further investigation and their statements taken.

“They were taken to a lock-up at MACC for further investigation. We will be releasing them on bail after having their statements recorded,” said Samarajoo, who did not elaborate on the arrest.

Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Ghafar Rajab when contacted confirmed the arrest of the policemen by MACC.

“I have yet to receive details of the arrest and I am waiting for the full report from MACC,” he said.
