Six IS suspects in Movida attack appear in court

PETALING JAYA: Six Islamic State terror suspects linked to the Movida nightclub attack in Puchong were brought to four separate courts to be charged.

Two of the suspects were brought to the magistrate’s court here by police officers and taken to the lock-up.

The other two were taken to the Klang magistrate’s court with one each brought to the magistrate’s courts in Kuala Lumpur and Ampang.

The six were arrested between June 28 and July 2 and were suspected to be behind the bombing of the Movida nightclub that injured eight people, one seriously.

One of the two suspected militants brought to the Petaling Jaya court by police wearing ski masks smiled at reporters and photographers. The suspects’ faces were not covered.

Despite being shoved and pushed by reporters and photographers, the suspects remained calm as they were walked towards the courtroom.

One suspect, wearing a brown t-shirt and jeans, looked gleeful while the other suspect, clad in blue t-shirt and jeans, had his head down the whole time.

No family members of the two suspects were seen at the court.

Police have confirmed that the explosion at the nightclub at the wee hours of June 28 was the first attack launched by IS in Malaysia.-thestar
