Four hikers missing on Gunung Panti found safe

KOTA TINGGI: Four Giat Mara students who were reported missing while hiking Gunung Panti near here Friday have been found, about 700m from the search and rescue (SAR) operations base camp.

Mohd Fakrul Nazmi and Muhammad Firdaus Zainal, both 18, Muhammad Nazhan Azhar, 19, and Zariqh Ideed, 21, were found by the SAR team comprising of 18 fire fighters, forest rangers and policemen from Batu Ampat and Mawai stations here.

“Four family members of those missing also assisted in the search. The students were found safe and uninjured at noon on Saturday and were brought to the Batu Ampat police station,” Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Rahmat Othman said in a statement on Saturday.

He urged those planning to climb Gunung Panti or jungle trekking to register at the nearest police station first.-thestar
